JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 12, 2008 Clear golden color with a modest white head. Wheat, citrus and light sour dough aromas. Flavors dominated by esters and phenols. Some banana, some citrus and light fruit. Not as clean as a kristal should be, IMO. Seems to border on a kristal berliner. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 21, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear gold color. Head was thin and white. No lace was left behind. The aroma was of banana, cereal grain, honey, and citrus. Lightly acidic on the tongue with tart apple, lemon, and banana flavors. There was also a bit of vinegar, unfortunately. Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2007 On tap at brewpub
I stopped here on whim just to get dinner. When I say this on the taplist I knew it was worth trying, even if turned out to be a disappointment. After all how many times do you run across a Kristallweizen made by a brewer in Wisconsin with ties to Germany?
Aroma / Appearance - I should knock off a point for coming with a lemon wedge but that was my fault for not having the foresight to ask them to leave it off. Fresh banana blended with Pedro’s orange degreaser. It was not strong though; imagine running it through a coffee filter to supress the strength. A hint of wheat was evident after some concentration. The body was ga transparent golden yellow with no cloudiness. This is likely due to the filtering which you ddon’t get with a good hefe.
Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel was satisfying but not exceptionally thick even for a wheat beer. A slight sourness permeated the orange and banana notes. Everything was offset by the taste of slightly stale white bread. It was very easy to drink; I had no problems finishing it off. I wouldn’t say it was an amazing beer but I could drink this if it were the only non-macro option at a party. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2005 Clear pale gold. Aroma of hay, lemons and croissants with melted lemon-butter. High carbonation up front. Tingly lemons. Bright, leaving much to be desired. Paling malts and little to no sweetening. Not very enjoyable. Damn filtered beer. hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Jul 13, 2005 Served with a lemon, drat. Removed quickly, but it may have had its affect. Aroma is fruity, with some citrus and some wheat twang. Pale yellow in appearance with a very thin white head that fades. Flavor is fruity with a tiny little hint of grassy hops in the finish. Very light and easy to drink, hence the good palate rating. These are supposed to be this way right?
