Poured into a Delirium Tremens tulip, a lovely two-layered, dense white head formed atop a hazy pale gold body, and produced a lovely web down the glass. Appearance was 100%, but the beer would not be!!! Dry, bitter, treacle and candi sugar nose, lightly spiced with an underlying burnt toffee aroma (very subtle). Sweet throughout in the mouth, quite crisp and light bodied, but also reasonably smooth. Lacking in flavours and any definition, it seemed a little unbalanced and overly subtle, despite it’s alcohol content and years spent in the back room. Only flavours I could make out were low toffee and butterscotch notes and a spicy warming alcohol swallow. A nice beer, but alongside other Belgian Golden Strong Ales, it was a little forgettable. On it’s own, though, it may be a good Autumn quencher. pivnizub (5017), Bochum, Porúří, Germany
