Grabbed this from the back of the cellar, forgotten about as it was dated Nov’ 02. Poured into a Delirium Tremens tulip, a lovely two-layered, dense white head formed atop a hazy pale gold body, and produced a lovely web down the glass. Appearance was 100%, but the beer would not be!!! Dry, bitter, treacle and candi sugar nose, lightly spiced with an underlying burnt toffee aroma (very subtle). Sweet throughout in the mouth, quite crisp and light bodied, but also reasonably smooth. Lacking in flavours and any definition, it seemed a little unbalanced and overly subtle, despite it’s alcohol content and years spent in the back room. Only flavours I could make out were low toffee and butterscotch notes and a spicy warming alcohol swallow. A nice beer, but alongside other Belgian Golden Strong Ales, it was a little forgettable. On it’s own, though, it may be a good Autumn quencher.

Bottle: Straw golden coloured, hazy, huge rocky off-white head; fruity (citrus) and slightly hoppy (hay) nose; initial sweetness, a bit sticky; smooth, quite full body, short aromatic bitter, dry finish; not bad, but far away from it’s shining example "Duvel"........

Can. Malty, peppery aroma with a hint of fruit. Golden colour. Small unstable creamy head. Malty, peppery flavour. Hint of asparagus. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Golden colour with a white head. Light spica malty aroma and a light alcoholic taste. Medium body and a sweet light alcoholic finish.

Can, Brussels, Nov 04. Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, grain), moderately hoppy (flowers), with notes of coriander, apple, and chemicals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Some off notes in the aroma, and surprisingly bland. Eh.

(Bottled) Hazy golden color with a medium, bubbly head. Slightly alcoholic, honeyish-fruity, sweetish aroma with melon. Malty and fruity, soft flavor with hints of alcohol and sugar. Medium-bodied palate with quite a high carbonation. A "cheaper" version of Duvel.

Bottle from Bon Accord. Golden colour, fluffy white head, so far , so D***l. Aroma of candy sugar and alcohol, slight spice. Medium body, flavour a little sweet, but not unpleasant.

Good balanced malt with an acidic atrtness and some residual sugar. Flavors of white fruit and an herbal background. Citrus and muscat on a very spritzy malt base.
