Commercial Description:
Brewed from the finest malted barley, hops, yeast, and water.
Ed. note: The label states that the brewery is Steinhaus, which does not own a facility. This beer appears to be brewed at two facilities, the second one being August Schell in New Ulm, MN.

From a twelve ounce bottle purchased for me by my loving girlfriend Nancy at "Trader Joe’s" - This one poured a very darkk amber (almost brown) ale with a tall white head of foam and faint, caramel malt aroma. Tastewise. it’s a fine red ale and certainly quaffable, but not really anything outstanding. But for five bucks a six pack, I’d buy it again.----------------------------------------------------- BTW, the bottle I have clearly states that "Jumping Cow Amber Ale" was brewed and bottled by Steinhaus Brewing Company, New Ulm, MN, so I think the Firestone Walker cite is wrong.

12oz at my girlfriend’s Parent’s House. Pours amber with a tan head. Nose is sweet and light. Taste is crisp and slightly caramelly. Not bad.

Bottle. An aggressive pours results in a clear amber beer with 4 finger beige head and nice delicate lacing. Nose is mostly caramel malt with a faint touch of hops. Taste is caramel, a bit of sweet fruit and a mellow bitter finish. Medium mouth feel. Run of the mill Amber, but worth the buck I paid for it at TJs.

Flavor – Well balanced beer this was a very easy to drink amber ale. Faint spice and very light in the hops.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, Decent texture with a good dry finish.
Overall – A very nice easy to drink amber ale. Nothing to special about this beer.

12 oz Bottle from Trader Joes. Pours a translucent amber-copper color with a small off-white head that rapidly faded. The aroma is weak with sweet lightly roasted malts and a bit of caramel. The flavor, what little there is, has sweet caramel, sweet malts, a touch of black licorice and the barest trace of hops. The mouthfeel is a bit syrupy and oily. The finish is medium in duration with lingering metallic licorice. Overall: If Drakes Expedition and GF Hop head Red are the standards for an amber ale then this one falls way, way short.

(Bottle) At its best, a run-of-the mill beer. Arguably worse than average. Aroma more malty and slightly caramely than anything else; only a hint of hops. When you start drinking it, the hops become a little more present...there’s a sort of weak aroma of the sort that you have in an India pale ale...but really toned down...a hint of caraway emerges. The dominant character of this beer though is slightly sweet malt...not particularly complex or coarse...too smooth. There’s little carbonation, little head when you pour it, and little bite to the texture. Too heavy to be refreshing. Drinkable, but not outstanding. I am not impressed. This beer has a lot of the worst qualities of an amber ale and the only redeeming qualities it has are that it is not like every other bad amber ale.
