Commercial Description:
JW Dundee’s American Amber Lager has a complex malt character that is masterfully balanced by a distinct American Hop aroma and flavor. We use 5 different malts to create the complex malt flavor in this beer. We start with our 2 Row Pale Malt as our base and then add 4 different types of Crystal Malts. It is the combination of the four Crystal malts that define the complexity of the beer. Although the malt is showcased in this beer, the hops play an important part in the balance of flavors. We use Simcoe, Cascade, and Magnum hops to create the hop profile that balances the complex malt character. This balance creates a beer that has great depth of flavor while still being very drinkable. JW Dundee’s Amber Lager is flavorful enough to satisfy craft beer drinkers yet is still accessible to those looking to find a beer with a little more character than their normal beer.

Sampled from bottle, pours a clear copper colour with a fairly large white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, tofee and raisins. Taste is relatively clean, crisp with a soft hop finish.

Pour is light amber with small tan head. Aroma is strong of caramel and malt. Flavor is also full of caramel. Very smooth palate with a nice crisp finish. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Bottle Janie 08’. Rather boring. Hops are present in the mid palette but don’t do much. Sweet and smooth in the finish.

JW Dundee’s American Amber Lager is a clear and sparkling, well, amber lager. The head is thin and white and leaves nice lacing on the glass. The appearance is really the best part of this beer, so look well. The aroma is sweet and malty, maybe caramel, with a hint of grassy hops. It’s pretty light bodied and watery. It’s prickly, with a gritty finish. It tastes pretty sweet, again, like caramel. There is a hint of bitterness at the finish and the aftertaste is clean. It almost seems as if it wasn’t completely fermented, but I’ve certainly had worse.

Huge tan head atop a copper penny colored brew, lots of fine carbonation. Aroma is grainy with corn strong in the forefront. Very fizzy carbonated feel like a hops soda.

Weird metallic malt flavors and a bit of hops do not a good beer make. Maybe for a barbecue, but not for anything where you’re paying attention to the beer.
