Commercial Description:
JW Dundee’s American Amber Lager has a complex malt character that is masterfully balanced by a distinct American Hop aroma and flavor. We use 5 different malts to create the complex malt flavor in this beer. We start with our 2 Row Pale Malt as our base and then add 4 different types of Crystal Malts. It is the combination of the four Crystal malts that define the complexity of the beer. Although the malt is showcased in this beer, the hops play an important part in the balance of flavors. We use Simcoe, Cascade, and Magnum hops to create the hop profile that balances the complex malt character. This balance creates a beer that has great depth of flavor while still being very drinkable. JW Dundee’s Amber Lager is flavorful enough to satisfy craft beer drinkers yet is still accessible to those looking to find a beer with a little more character than their normal beer.

Given to me as a part of a gift of mixed 12-pack by a friend, this is something I had passed over many times for other better known beers. The beer came out clear orange amber in color, and displayed a one finger thick head. Aromatically, this was hoppier than I was anticipating, with a clean, almost noble aroma balancing out the sweet caramel malt smell. The taste was balanced as well between these two elements. The malts were definitely prominent here providing caramel, honey, and brown sugar flavors, while hops provided a spicy pizzazz to keep the taste from becoming too basic. Medium mouthfeel was nicely sticky, with a fizzle of carbonation of the tongue finishing things off. Much more interesting than I thought it was going to be. This ought to teach me not to overlook anything.

12oz bottle from their multi-pack. Translucent amber-red body with a half inch of off-white head. Smells of roasty malts. Tastes like roasty malt with some citrus hops in the background. On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Drinkable and very tasty. Their best offering I’ve yet tried...

Nice amber-orange color with a lot of whitish head. Mild aroma with some citrus notes. Lots of carbonation. Medium hoppiness with a tinge of cloves and a metallic aftertaste. Good stuff.

Bottle from the Craft pack. Poured a clear amber colour. Good light head, with malty aromas with some butterscotch. The aftertaste is malt flavor with a little roastiness. There is a dry fisnish, smooth and easy drinking.

Presentation: Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. It has a deep amber color with excellent clarity. The head is full and fluffy with a creamy off white color. It hangs on for a short time and recedes to a thin covering. On the way down the glass it leaves behind some nice lacing. The aroma is light and clean. There is a light malt presence with soft aromatic hops in the nose. Nothing out of this world but it is fresh, crisp and clean. There is a pleasant sweet malt base with a mild hop presence within a medium body that has a refreshing texture and clean finish. Simple and good but great. It comes with a modest price tag that will bring me back for more.

Pours a three-fingered white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Clear deep amber color. Sweet malty nose, Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Starts and finshes with a good malt/hop balance unusual for an amber but as the brewer claims it to be. $1.25 for a 12oz bottle from Northend Superette Manchester, NH.

Amber hued with a modest silky head and fair lacing, toasty malt aroma with a spicy citrusy note. Light bodied and a little dryish, with caramel malts, a slight acidity and a touch of cotton candy with lightly bitter finish. Very clean, light with an interesting malt profile, tasty and reasonably priced.

Had this one bottled. Clear, dark copper color, somewhat bubbly, thin white head, slightly sweet nose like caramel. Actually, a fairly good beer for a lager. Lots of different malts in this one -- I taste distinct apple and chocolate, with hints of flowers. Impressive product from an underrated brewery.
