mgoy (282), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA May 17, 2008 J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (Sherry) is a hazy amber color with sediment resting on the bottom and no head. The aroma is of molasses, sherry and sugar. The flavor is very sweet and the finish makes this work as a nice after-dinner drink.
The_Epeeist (980), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 9.3 oz bottle, 2007. Foggy orange with a sudsy white head. Clears with settling. Nose is caramel and butterscotch with a touch of sherry as it warms. Thin syrup, intensely saturated with a faint tingle. Taste is very sweet cane sugar enhanced by the sherry. Mild bitter hops with a dry woody finish. Youngest of the Harvest Ales i’ve tried and still a bit raw. While tasty, the sherry notes put this over the top. fordest (1778), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Oct 8, 2008 12 oz bottle. So sweet. Sweet aromas sweet flavors. Caramel, cane sugar, molasses, raisin, prune, plum. Every thing a barley wine should be and then even sweeter. Hints of Sherry but not huge. Just plain sweet. I love sweet beer. Tmoney99 (3636), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle 2004 from River’s Bend. Poured cloudy reddish brown color with medium frothy head that diminished quickly with fair lacing. Complex aroma of sweet woody malt and alcohol. Full body with thick texture. Complex flavor of rich sweet earthy fruit flavor with medium sweet woody finish of moderate to long duration. Solid complex after dinner brew. bleeng (304), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Sep 15, 2008 Shared at the September Houston RB tastiing. Gold with no head. Nose is very, very sweet and sugary. Taste is syrupy, way too sweet, boozy, sticky, viscous. Just not easy to drink or finish. Not my style. Zinister (892), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 9, 2008 Shared by bleeng at the September Houston Tasting. Mead like honey color with no head. Nose of sherry, honey, sugar and some heat. Flavor is very sweet malt with honey and hops. Syrupy, thick palate that coats the mouth well. Good boozy sipper that’s a great end to an evening.
