1998 bottle on 5/03/2008. Deep mahogany pour producing a spare light tan head, settling to a thin ring, leaving a sparse lace. Wonderful aroma of raisins, figs, brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of spice. Full body, light carbonation, syrupy and sticky on the palate, but expected and appropriate. Molasses like sweetness up front, lingering on and on, yet a soft, understated bitterness slowly builds to take the edge off. The finish is by no means dry, but is not cloying either. Alcohol is very well hidden. This is a late night slow drinker, much like a nice aged port or cognac.

Thx for a grand tasting, Chris_o :) Courtesy of Reak and Mes. Dark amber, notes of malt, toffee, portwine, sherry, sweet. Long aftertaste. Very good development. Great beer.

Bottle. 1999 vintage. Pours dark amber/brown, with a small tannish head, very hazy body. I can smell the caramel from across the room. Aroma is strong malt, alcohol. Flavor is malty, caramel, dark fruit--plum, peach, very smooth, with an alcohol burn at the end. Excellent beer.

Rating #500. 1998 vintage. It pours out an almost purplish brown with a whisp of tan froth forming on top then quickly receding to no trace of a head at all. The aroma hits at first of soy sauce surrounded by caramel, maple, sherry, and a faint hint of warming alcohol in the nose. The flavor is quite nice for such a thin body. Hints of charred maple syrup and burnt toast overwhelm the palate. Vanilla, port, and dark fruits also show themselves. Very wonderful as it sits in the mouth and lightly dissolves away.

2001 Vintage
Pours a ruby brown in color with absolutely no head to be found. Some sediment "chunkies" floating in the beer. Smell is dark fruits, figs, very port-like. Taste is very much the same. Very smooth and creamy. Some leather tannins coming through as well. This is over seven years old and has aged gracefully. Have some more left, so I’ll check back with those at a later point.

1998 Bottle thanks to 1_2many. A magnificent barely wine. Extremely sweet, much more than what I was anticipating. Dark color with small head and sweet malty aromas. Flavor is sweet malt, dark fruits, caramel. Approaches the border line of too sweet, but still very drinkable. Hides the alcohol well.
