A surprisingly drinkable little number for one so strong. I was expecting a dark sweet concoction, but this was pleasantly dry and bitter. I liked it.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, dark fruit, raisin. Taste is sweet, malty, alcohol and mildly bitter. Full body and kind of thick on the palate, rather flat. I’m not finding anything remarkable about this beer.

Bottle from Morrison’s, Banbury 08-11-09 consumed the same day. Pours dark reddy brown with large tan head that swiftly departed. Big bitter sweet bonfire toffee are the first things I notice. This is a big chewy, sweet, malty beer with a little bitter tinge, ok its a touch sweet but overall a good beer to be sipped by a roaring fire. A6 A4 F7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Pours a dark, translucent, cola brown mauve color with a small, bubbly, frothy head of beige foam. Spotty, splotchy lacing marks the glass. The nose is very sweet and caramelly, with strong notes of stewed dark raisins, figs, and dates. Dark, toasty bread and hints of lactose keep things fresh and creamy, while notes of tree bark and earthy hops lend a semblance of balance. Flavors follow suit, mostly sweet with brown sugar, caramel, and a bevy of dark fruits. Earthy hops and dark winter spices keep things from getting overly sweet. The palate is substantial and sugary, with a touch of sherry-like oxidation, and a bit of alcoholic warmth. Good, solid brew.

Bottle from morrisons Bradford. Dark red in colour with a thin tan coloured head. Sweet aroma of malt and treacle. Thick taste of sweet malt mixed with treacle. Fairly smooth but loses mark for being a bit too sweet.

Bottle form Morrisons. Deep, reddish brown with a decent tan head. Sweet, toffee and dark fruit aroma with some earthiness. Very sweet flavour, with assorted fruits (apples, citrus, cherries) barley sugar and liquorice. Finish had some bitterness, warming alcohol and also a syrupy edge. Not my kind of beer.

Bottle. Clear brown colour with a nice beige head. Rich aroma and taste of malts, fruits and caramel. Good beer.
