Deep red ruby brown ale with no head. Sweet caramle butterscotch with vanilla notes, woody chips, and dry mouthfeel. Still a rather light and watery bodied ale. Bought at Waitrose, Gloucester Road, London.

Bottle 500ml. Darksih red ale, thin beige head. Good dark fruit and berry(strawberry?) aromas with caramel/toffee some roasted malt notes. Good in mouth some sweetness some roast malt coffee/caramel which carries on to end which is dry. OK, but would be better in winter than August

(Cask at Eagle, Hoxton, London, 28 Nov 2007) Dark ruby colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with notes of cowberries and spices. Fruity, spicy taste with cowberries, raspberries and caramel. A bit strange.

Mild spicy, herbal hop nose dissipates quickly leaving a caramel malt aroma. Red-amber with excellent clarity and a decent cover of tan head. Malty caramel flavour with some balancing bitterness. Nice dry finish leaves this one very easy to drink with medium body and moderately low carbonation. Bottle sampled with Lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere.

From hand pump at The Alex in Derby. A mid brown coloured beer served with a sparkler. Particularly malty with a strong creamy head. At £2.30 a pint for 4.5% a reasonable purchase. Though a tad to malty for my taste

The Lure:
Sweet golden syrup undermining the green, herbal hoppiness. Cranberries attempt a perfume, but scant ashes bring them down. All is quite subdued and thus near silent.

The Festivities:
Chalky hoppiness is a bit harsh, but the near-cask feel and fruity interplay of this bottle are interesting. Nothing outstanding to say the least.

Transcendence:
Spring roads are definitely not the smoothest driving.
