Commercial Description:
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

Hazy golden with a firm white head. Tart wheat and black pepper aromas. Clove estery flavor with grainy malt grist andmild tart wheat. Good with a pizza.

12oz bottle (Konig Ludwig Weissbier). Pours golden and cloudy with a thick head that is slow to settle. The nose is fruity malt and citrus. The taste is nice and pleasant, lemon, banana, and bread flavors that are mingled with the hops with a well balanced malt flavor. Very smooth.

Pours a pale, cloudy straw color with a thick, creamy white head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Very strong aroma; hints of banana and spice. Kind of a subdued taste; not bold, but not terrible either. Much more banana taste than in other weissbiers I’ve had. Decent mouthfeel. All in all, a very nice beer.

bottle- (Konig Ludwig Weissbier) I expected a bit more from this brew. Very small head which diminished almost immediately, pungent aroma with little or no citrus, spicy with buttery, earthy undertones. Upon tasting nothing really stands out a hint of leather perhaps, very lively carbonation. Not a great weizen - but not bad on the whole either.

Appearance: Persistent head and fine bubbles due to bottle fermenting. Aroma: Initially faint aroma coriander. Later, some banana and more coriander appeared as it warmed. Flavor: Slightly bitter banana and coriander spice that got more prominent as it opened up. Palate. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Comment: Fine balance of malt and hop. The hop bittering doesn’t really intrude at all but adds just a little bitterness that is blended into the banana and malt flavors to give it a bit of complexity. I perceived this to be dry/slightly off dry, meaning that I could drink another without feeling full. This puts most American and Japanese commercial beers to shame. Perhaps this is what a good quality session beer should be like.

The first time I had one, I was blitzed, so I didn’t trust my initial reaction. But after trying a second, I was right: it smells vaguely like popcorn, and it tastes vaguely like butter. Nice and light, the same gross cloudy appearance of most weissbiers. Really nice; I’ll try some more when summer comes around. Or on movie night.

bottled under König Ludwig Weissbier label. Color is murky orange, enormous white head lacing. Fruity and yeasty nose. which comes back in aroma and flavour. vy nicely composed hefe. I dunno why they play around with the labels.
