Bottle. Boured black with red tinge and medium beige head. Aroma is anything but subtle but is malty and powerful. Flavour is medium malty with a bitter edge and a bit of espresso. Lingering malt finish. Finish does not overpower but comes and goes.

Saw a bottle of this at Belmont Station in Portland OR and thought, "Sure. What the heck!". Colour... very dark brown with no head. Nose... faint roasted malt and some hops. Palate... thin, watery, some light roasted malt and faint hops, but not much to offer. If I lived in Kamloops, I’d want a much more robust ale than this, esp. from October to April!!

Draft @ BBF - I love when I ask what style the beer is based on the appearance, porter or stout, and the woman behind the counter says "No, it’s an ale." Than upon tasting you look at her like she’s the fucking idiot that she is, because it turns out to be a dark lager. Stupid volunteers. Ahem, this beer is so damn overcarbonated, it is barely drinkable. Sour chocolate and grainy caramel maltiness are present here with some bitterness in the finish that is not at all pleasant. 2 enthusiastic thumbs down for this one.

Has a sort of un-beer-like coffee/cocoa aroma... doesn’t really smell at all like beer. Sorry, but it tastes a bit like an ashtray someone poured coffee in.

Dark brown pour with a small white head. earthy malt aroma. Flavor is malty with a grainy edge. Relatively smooth, but a bit thin in flavor and on the palate. Not bad.

11/14/08 from the bottle. Aroma is smoky, roasty cream forward, with a rausch-like background. Appearance is dark brown with a well maintained cream colored head. Flavor has lots of chocolate, light graininess, clean sweetness but no caramel. Mouthfeel is medium/light bodied with a medium carb texture. Fast and easy drinking for a full-flavored dark ale.

This is a great beer in that it combines a smooth lager with some decent full flavours. It oozes with silky chocolate, roasting malt and well-balanced hops. It’s also got a lovely soft black colour with a temperate nose. Where it goes wrong is the bizzare way in which its carbonated almost to the level of soda. Absolutely ruined the mouth appeal. Was it just my bottle? So unfortunate.
