Clear, dark chestnut brown with ruby highlights is topped by low, tan-brown head that recedes to partial cover with some lace. Bready sugary malt flavour with light tartness in the fairly bitter finish. Medium body is quite dry with fairly lively, sharp, pointy carbonation. Bottle sampled at GBBF 2005.

Ruby red brown in colour with lasting tan head. Nice lace too. Sweet toasty malts, lovely balanced finish. Feels bigger than 4.4, due to the smooth body. The aroma is malty with caramel fudge toffee and alcohol. The taste is malty with some carachoc and some fruitiness. Reminds me a little of some English Old Ales. Geiserich (1790), Vienna, Austria

"Gold brown" as the name says. Off-white fluffy head. Malty aroma with hints of coffee. Malty fresh taste, notes of burnt coffee. Only light sweet. Astringent finish, acid notes. A pleasant "coffee" Dunkel, not as sweet as other austrian dunkel. motelpogo (4395), Plzen, Czech Republic
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 16, 2004 bottled. more rotbraun than goldbraun. malty caramel aroma that is unusual for german beer. weird flavour - lots of fruit salad and cocoa powder then quite a dry finish. pretty complex, just not that nice rauchbier (3002), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Low sweet malty aroma with a touch of caramel, fairly bland in the mouth with more sweet caramel and a little roast barley becoming apparent. Gentle toffee sweetness in the finish. Landbier isn’t really a style, and lumping this in with Kellerbiers and Zwickls only serves to highlight it.
