Commercial Description:
The most refreshing beer in the world. Malted wheat and special yeast give Kapuziner Weissbier its light touch and distinctive taste - a yeasty tang offset by a solid malt body and a delightful tropical fruitiness. Unfiltered yeast lends a hazy, seductive look.

50 cl bottle poured into my cool-as-hell Paulaner Weizen glass. Cloudy amber/orange color with a billowy moussy head. Aromas of banana, hay, bread, pear, citrus and dusty hops. Basic flavor of off- sweet quickbread malts with some lemony tartness throughout, as well as some grassy hops. However, the overall underlying flavor seems old and stale, with some salty/brothy vegemite notes coming through. Very disappointing. Could be an old bottle maybe.

Hazy peach hue under a tall crown of white cream. Candied bananas are countered by muted clove and black pepper; on the other side, slightly sulphurous with an almost lactic tang. Initially sweet and sour, building lemon acidity, then a wet and tangy finish full of oily citrus zest. Dull, muted, feeling in the mouth with a chalky texture and fat carbonation on a lighter body.

Falls a bit short by lacking the big nose, bright flavours and refreshing mouthfeel that makes weißbier such fun.

50 cl bottle, best before 04 January 2009.

Hazy yellow-orange body with a huge, creamy white head. There’s a bit of the requisite bananas and cloves in the aroma, but there’s also a lot of...egg? Not in an entirely disgusting sulphurous way, just...like egg noodles, or a bread made with lots of eggs. So yeah, so some bread as well. And that’s really pretty much it for the aroma, pathetic. The flavour betrays an egg-based protein shake flavour that’s not completely pleasant. There’s a light acidity throughout, but nothing quenching or refreshing. The finish holds on to that eggy flavour for far too long. Light to medium bodied with a very watery texture and massive carbonation. Just...entirely not what a hefe should be, or any beer for that matter. 50cl can, Duvel tulip, bbe 09/07/08.

500 ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange – gold with a nice white head. Aroma is banana and bubblegum and yeast. Flavor is fairly strong tropical fruit and wheat. Yeasty and tingly from soda-like carbonation. Drys out on the finish. Tart citrus and heavy malts balance well. A very good hefe. Refresing and enjoyable.

8-13-07, no date on bottle. Clear dark golden yellow, huge white head, tiny carb bubbles. Head lasts the whole beer, would give a 5 if there was some sort of cloudiness. Huge yeasty ester aroma. Banana and caramel? Flavor confirms the caramel. Banana and muddied spice in the flavor, can’t pinpoint. Hints of citrus near the finish. Oddly enough seems a bit undercarbonated on the palate. Few tweaks here and there and this is a really nice beer.

Dark orange color. Unclear. Has a big, white head, mostly lasting. Aroma is sweet, with notes of fruit and coriander. Flavor is real nice, fresh fruit, apple, pear. Bitter finish.

mini-keg. Feint banana aroma with some citrus and an overall cereal scent. Pours cloudy orange-gold color with a huge white head. Mild banana flavor, some citrus, hints of spice in the back, finishes dry. Its lacking a little of what i like in hefeweizen.

6/30/07 On draught at the Seattle International Beerfest. Aroma is a wide malt blend of sweetness, wheat and sourness. Appearance is a cloudy, wheaty, yellow with a medium white head. Flavor is sweet, wheaty malt with low hop flavor. Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp, with a clean finish. Overall, a very easy drinking weissbier with no objectionable standouts to complain about.

Unclear almost orange. Rich lasting white head. Wheaty and yeasty aroma. Even more wheat in the flavour. Yeast. Notes of citrus. A little bitterness in the finish. Full. Faintly metallic. Very good.
