Aug 6, 2008 From tap at the brewpub in Carlsbad. Pours clear and golden orange with a fully diminished white head. Mild caramel malty aroma. Light toasted caramel flavour with a mild bitterness coming through, a bit sweet. Mild spiced into a medium dry finish.

Jul 27, 2008 Sample at the Sorrento Valley location. This brew pours a clear pale copper color with a thin white head that dissipates steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Sweet malt and caramel in the nose, with a touch of hops. Medium-bodied and sweet with toasted malt and caramel flavors, plus a bit of floral hops. The finish is sweet with a lingering malty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Jun 28, 2008 This brew’s appearance is undoubtedly it’s most redeeming quality. Lives up to the title of being an "amber" but lacks the caramel, toffee, malt backbone most in the category have. Just a watered-down excuse for a beer.

Jun 25, 2008 Updated: Aug 12, 2008On tap in a plastic cup in a busy San Diego Airport bar. Not a great place to enjoy a good brew, and I detected some off notes that might have been due to the plastic cup, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Nice burnt orange color with medium white head, with some lacing on my "glass". Lot of carmel flavor in this lager with a little hops and malt notes. A little unusual tasting for a lager, interesting, good not great beer.
Re-rate August 11st. Sample on tap at the brew pub was much better than at the airport. Duh! Lovely rich caramel flavor, nice balance. Upped it 0.2 points.

Jun 8, 2008 small light amber head; sweet malt aroma with a very slight bit of hop; sweet caramel taste, reminiscent of berry (?); quite fizzy; the finish is sweet with almost no hop.
