The tap variety is made here in San Diego--the bottled version is contract brewed in Stevens Point WI. This rating is for bottled product. 12 oz bottle pours medium amber with an off-white crinolin head. Aroma is sweet and nutty. Flavor matches aroma but there is little bite or kick. Finish is bland and somewhat unsatisfying. Better than any of the mass produced major labels. Very sessionable mlid ale. GreatLibations (1454), Last Supper, Arizona, USA

Head retention is good and so is the lacing. Aromas of caramel malts and dried hay though not offensive. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. A well balanced brew w/ a nice hop essence. Not too malty. Good structure. The finish is bittered perfectly. I am impressed. jlf278 (255), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

So, this was the obvious choice. Fairlyl simple and straightforward, medium body, good mix of sweet and bitter. Didn’t get to pour it out, but it seems more like an in the bottle drinker. Next to hefe, one of my preferred beers at Karl Strauss. The restaurant in Sorrento Valley is beautiful. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA

Amber in the glass with a creamy off-white head. The aroma had lots of vinegar backed with some caramel. Malty flavor mixed with some hops that makes it somewhat sour. Light chocolate background. Light body. This one is just not right. With all the awesome breweries in the San Diego area this is the best you can put in the airport to send people off with? brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA

Pours a clear amber and has an average sized white head. Nose is vanilla with some sublte fruitness. Taste is a bit bland. There is some muted vanilla, a tiny bit of toffee, and some caramel malts. Carbonation is average, body is light/medium. An average lager. jarspag (600), Los Angeles, California, USA

For that reason, I’ll always like it. But really, there’s nothing all that great about it. All the Strauss beers do have a unique finish/taste to em. Can’t describe it, you just gotta try em...
