tap @ hams pours opaque amber with no head. Sweet, light, dried fruit nose. Taste is sweet, thin and after drinking some of avery’s beast 07 vintage this is less than stellar.

Amber, small head. A bit harsh, as if young...probably needs to age, but i think it may only be served on tap at Karl Strauss. A somewhat average barleywine.

Huge pine hop nose covers up almost all malt aroma. Almost smells like a DIPA. Beer pours a reddish amber. Flavor is more pine hops, then sweet sugary malt, then some dry hop resins. This is a full bodied beer, but still a very drinkable well balanced barley wine.

On tap at Columbia Street brewery. Dark copper color with creamy off white head leaving a thick sheet of lacing behind. Medium strength aroma of piney hops and rich caramel malts. Flavor has nice assertive pine hop bitterness to balance the load of malts in this beer. Certainly a west coast style Barleywine. Very tasty.

This beer is great. A drink you really need to take your time and enjoy the true flavors that come from this exceptional beer. With a kick after one glass that can really put you in a good place or should I say mind set. A must have when in season. I guess it is a seasonal.

On Tap @ Costa Mesa Location. Pretty weak example of a B.W. Easy to drink, but lacks a real strong hop presence. Sweet, very malty. Average.
