May 5, 2006 Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla. Clear, dark copper color with a bubbly off white head. Strong grapefruit hop nose and flavor balanced nicely with a cotton candy sweetness and dired fruits. Slick and heavy in the mouth with lingering sweetness and bitterness.

Apr 28, 2006 Tap at the downtown location. Pours a deep amer color. Sweet hoppy aroma. Fairly sweet and hoppy right up front with a fair amount of maltiness to balance it out. Almost stick. Smooth with low carbonation. Enjoyable.

Mar 4, 2006 Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla: A pronounced mahogany color, nose of cherry, caramel plum, raisin, nice hops on a pleasant level. The flavor is dry and tangy, sweet chewyness and a stout body and mouthfeel. Nice nose for a barleywine but not the best.

Mar 1, 2006 Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest, Dec 05. Clear dark brown pour. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Semi-sweet malt flavors, some nutty notes. Kinda thin, and laced with alcohol.

Dec 20, 2005 9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest: Clear dark amber with a huge off-white head. Aroma of sweet big malt. Smells like freshly steeped grains. Sweet malt. Toffee with some nut. Moderate bitter finish ends with piney hops.

Dec 5, 2005 Sampled at the Pizza Port 9th Strong Ale Festival. Glad to see this brewery participating with a worthy offering. Although somewhat on the light side for a BW, it possesed a pleasant malt profile, was drinkable and finished well.
