ksigty (107), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA Aug 8, 2007 I liked this beer quite a bit. The downside was that it had a watered down appearance. I figured it would be a darker ale. However, what it lacked in appearance, it made up in flavor. Plenty of toasted malt to make it a pleasure to drink. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Jul 26, 2007 Draft at the downtown brewpub. Aroma of dark malt, seemingly nuts, and coffee. Nearly opaque brown color with a beige head that ringed. Starts surprisingly fresh and fruity sweet. The dark malt is in the background. The body is medium, and the carbonation is mild. The finish is light and refreshingly sweet - but not in a heavy malt way. Excellent ale, even though the bitter is low. Dark roast aspects are low key. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Jun 30, 2007 On tap at Karl Strauss. Copper brown with creamy white head. Nutty taste, roastiness, witha a disappionting sour finish. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA May 30, 2007 Not my favorite at Karl Strauss. A little to hoppy/roasted grain bitters. As if it needs aging. Decent lacing. brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA May 12, 2007 this beer is whack!!! pretty sh!tty for a brown ale, almost looks like a dark amber.....tastes like water, this is no craft brew....beware!!!! jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Apr 15, 2007 Not very good...hell, I’d even prefer a Newcastle. That should be enough. But what did you really expect from Karl? All their beers are relatively weak riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Apr 12, 2007 Initial roasted coffee mocha aroma. The ale pours a dark brown with a nice velvetty head. The flavor is mocha, roasted coffee, and some nuttiness. The beer is really smooth and rich on the palate. This is probably one of my favorite brown ales.
