Commercial Description:
A medium-dark ale, similar to mild brown British ales. This beer has a pronounced malty flavor attributable to the special malt components in the blend. Toasty flavor, slightly sweet, surprisingly drinkable, with a rich aftertaste.

Tasted on draft @ the brewpub in downtown San Diego. This is a good brown ale. Nutty balanced w/ mild hop flavor.

On tap from the brewpub. Tasted during trip to California. Dark reddish brown colour with a fine head. Great aroma of hazelnuts and toffee. Also great taste of the same extremely nutty and fine. A really great brown ale.

Draft. Mahogony-amber beer with a tiny beige-ish head. Nutty, malty aroma. Malt flavor with good nuttiness and some roastiness. A bit of brown sugar.

Fairly dark in its brown color. No head and weak aroma. Taste had shocked me at first but i got used to its rich sweetness and use of malt.

Dark brown with a redish tint. Small off white (bar pour) head, but left some lacing. Brown ale aroma. Start is lightly sweet with some nutty notes and a light coffee like bitter finish. Light palate with a slightly metallic aftertaste. One of Karl Strauss’s better brews.

This one had that smell of ’brown’ - what I expect a brown ale to smell like. Some burnt flavors, but otherwise fairly smooth with malty aftertastes. A nice deep brown without having the heat of a darker beer.

Tap, at the Shout House. I was pretty housed when I started drinking this stuff, but I remember it went down pretty easy, no bold flavors or aromas stuck out. Kind of a light feel. Solid beer though.

Body is pretty light for the style. Very toasty and malty flavor was good. Carbonation was a bit high, not bad overall.
