Commercial Description:
A medium-dark ale, similar to mild brown British ales. This beer has a pronounced malty flavor attributable to the special malt components in the blend. Toasty flavor, slightly sweet, surprisingly drinkable, with a rich aftertaste.

Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla: Dark mahogany, nose of roasty notes along with some caramel and diacetyl. The flavor is nutty, mellow, bland, but does exactly what brown ales should, except for the body.

Draft at brewpub downtown. Clear dark brown hue with average rocky off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Flavor was moderate toasted balanced with an average bitter finish of moderate duration. Medium creamy body. Good brew with homestyle food.

Draft at the downtown brewpub. Aroma of dark malt, seemingly nuts, and coffee. Nearly opaque brown color with a beige head that ringed. Starts surprisingly fresh and fruity sweet. The dark malt is in the background. The body is medium, and the carbonation is mild. The finish is light and refreshingly sweet - but not in a heavy malt way. Excellent ale, even though the bitter is low. Dark roast aspects are low key.

The beer had a very dark clear copper color with a reddish tint and off-white head. The aroma had notes of toasted malt and smelled like fresh grain. Notes of coffee and light hops as well. The flavor was of lightly roasted malt and some coffee notes. The was a decent sized hop bitterness on the finish. Medium body.

Dark brown color, medium head. Roasted malts, medium hopped. Nice nut-brown flavor. Rich smooth malt taste. Full flavor. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and slightly nutty, not a lot of bitterness.

Bottled. Thanks Fredrik. Dark brown colour. Caramelly, buttery nose with some smokiness. Butterscotchy flavour, light smokey/peaty and buttery malty with smoke again. A somewhat complex brown ale.

Downtown Afterwork Ale. Nice light brown color. Sweet, malty, light (what isn't from Karl?).
