pivnizub (3899), Porúří, Germany May 6, 2008 On tap (?) at the Weisses Bräuhaus, Kelheim: Citrousy, hoppy nose with a distinctive hoppy background; light to moderate bitter-tart flavour, light to medium bodied; dryish, short tart-bitter finish. Unharmonic, a bit too tart.........
yngwie (3602), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 20, 2007 On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. Clear, pale golden, with a nice, white head. Grainy nose with some fruityness. Mostly grainy flavor and finish as well. Thin body. A quite boring beer, not bad though. (070803) scotty (754), Scotland Apr 26, 2006 Updated: Apr 29, 2006I used to work for an off licence chain in the Borders and we had permission from head office to buy stock from a guy called Olaf Schellenberg (I suspect he was German!!!!) Anyway, Olaf would visit small, interesting breweries in Germany, buy some stock and move on to another brewery, when he’d filled his trailer he would head back to Scotland and flog his wares. He would often only buy a couple of cases from some breweries to see how they sold(or that’s what he told me!) so those beers were probably not known in the UK..I first discovered Aventinus, Schlenkerla, and many others though this guy, long before they became (fairly) widely available. I digress....Donau pils was one of his favourites, so I bought some from him, these were 33cl bottles and had an alcohol% of 4.9. We sold them for £1.19 each, I think I bought most of them! Nice stuff! I remember it well! Ernest (4254), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 6, 2004 Presumably from draught (at the Schneider brewpub, Munich). Head is frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (bread), moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. I noticed Schneider had a few non-Schneider brews on their menu, and figured I'd give the pils a try for a change of pace from weissbiers. Pleasantly surprised...solid pils with a nice hop aroma and assertive bitterness.
