TBone (4924), Pori, Finland Jul 19, 2008 Bottled 05/2007
Courtesy of Edo - bierkoning, ty. Dark brown color, small tan head. Strong nice aroma of licorice, toasted malts and prunes. Good malty body. Caramelly with dark fruits like prunes and date, some licorice. This is vintage 2007, over a year old, no alcohol in the taste. Very nice dessert beer. MiP (4927), Flensburg, Germany Feb 5, 2008 Bottle, 8.5%. Citric, metallic aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour, sparkling. Small light brown head. The flavour is quite malty with some yeast. Very malty, sugary, brown sugar, burnt sugar. Roasted, sour aftertaste. High carbonation, swelling mouthfeel. Not so complex. The sourness puts me off a bit. The beer improves after breathing for a good while. martinboer (1308), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jan 25, 2008 From Cracked Kettle. Dark brown. Tan, lasting head. Sour nose. Taste of red fruits, cherries and boysenberries. Nice lacing. Quite good. Syrupy, sweet, fruit. Watery. No trace of the sour aroma in the taste. Bitter, tangy finish. jbrus (4095), Delft, Netherlands Jan 20, 2007 Bottled. After trying a couple of other beers from this brewery I opened it with a little fear. Another one down the drain? But no! What a surprise: an excellent Belgian Strong Ale. Intens aroma, sweet and loads of licorice, prune, raisin, coriander, pear. Ruby color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, soft bitterness, loads of licorice in the flavor as well, salty and coriander. Full bodied. bierkoning (4691), La Tropica, Netherlands May 31, 2003 Dark color, no head. Mocha and coffee liquor aroma. Sweet and very fruity flavor with mocha, grapes, pear and licorice. Hardly any lacing, the alcohol is prominent, thanks to the bit watery texture. Elemental brewing mistakes have been made. Still a reasonable, but far from perfect beer.
