| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2008 20-Jan-08 (Draft: Humpy’s Alehouse in Anchorage, AK) Calling a beer a "holiday" beer could imply some winter spicing, but this is very much a straight-shooting nut brown ale with a rich, malty flavor. Very chocolaty, toasty, caramely and modestly nutty core flavors up front, with a very light hop profile in the background providing gentle bitterness. Slight toffee in the finish as the beer warms. It would be easy for a beer in this style to be too sweet, but not so here: light-medium sweetness is balanced by a touch of nutty tartness. Chocolate, toast and light toffee in the nose, and again, it’s not overly sweet-smelling. Smooth, medium-bodied and gently carbonated on the palate. Medium-dark brown in color and opaque though the center, with ruddy translucence at the edges. The small, tan head slowly settles to a broken film and thin ring. Overall, a very tasty nut brown ale with a deliciously malty flavor. Highly recommended.
