Dark brown with a tan head. Rich chocolate aroma with tart oatmeal and deep roasted malts. Rich dark chocolate flavor with bitter blackened malts to balance. Nice stout. Draft@ Humpys.

On tap. Dark brown almost black with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and a light smokiness. Sweet flavor that has a light bitterness from the roasted grain and a very light hop bitterness. Creamy mouth feel, full body and an average carbonation that helps lighten the body a bit. This is a solid Stout that goes down smooth and is very drinkable.

22-Jan-08 (Draft: Kassik’s Kenai Brew Stop in Nikiski, AK) After sampling five beers, it was well past the brewery’s closing time, yet Frank and Debara were more than happy to let me continue on and sample all their remaining beers. Next up was their Oatmeal Stout. This beer looks very similar to the porter: very dark brown and essentially opaque. The dark-tan head pours to half an inch, but holds a thin layer for several minutes, leaving a wide ring of lace on the glass. Mildly sweet and yeasty entry with a nice, roasty finish. Roasty nose seems a little yeasty and is medium-sweet. Medium-full body could use a bit more weight. Dry, dusty and chalky mouthfeel. Once again, they’ve brewed a solid beer with restrained sweetness.
