The aroma is like a mountain of chocolate, a river of alcohol and a cloud of fruits. And the taste. Picturesce, like the aroma. Sweet, syrupy liquid with chocolate, raisins and cherries. The big alcohol percentage is hidden behind the complex flavour. You can feel the roasted malt on the tongue with the sweet aftertaste. lucke13 (90), Des Moines, Iowa, USA

Tastes pleasantly sweet, with a syrupy mouthfeel and after-taste. The alcohol is well hidden in the taste. Overall...a nice ale. douglas88 (1648), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Pours a dark brown with a thin light brown head. The aroma is mostly dark fruits with some candy and sugary qualities. The taste is really sweet and syrupy; dark fruits, melted candies and chocolate, dark sweet cherries, molasses and some malt. Just like the description; a Belgian brown ale. Interesting, really sweet but good. rocbyter (923), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA

Sweet flavor throughout with a light amount of bitterness developing in the middle and a little alcohol in the finish. Creamy palate. BlackOut (43), East End, England

Totally love the richness of it, will go nicely with a meat dinner. Although rich in alcohol but can’t taste it straight away, it kinda comes in later and not with a bang but very smoothly, will drink again and recommend to anyone! Over all I just think alone it may be OK but to drink an 11% beer and this is all I get I would be a bit let down. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2008 This one is pretty high powered and and subtle in its power. First impression is of a spicy malty drink. Slowly the sweetness comes through with some purple fruit flavors. There is a cordial liquor sort of quality to this beer that is unique. On tap at the brickstore. Poured a reddish brown with a big off white head. Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Deep amber, slight head, part of BJCP training session courtesy of maniac. Aroma was raisin, a hint of perfume, and bread. Flavor matched, definitely malt accented. Seemed simplistic in comparison to the Rochefort and Gouden Carolus we had previously, but not a bad beer.
