An interesting Belgian beer to say the least. Lots and lots of residual sweetness left in this ale, but it works to it’s advantage because what it creates is a beer that should be enjoyed for a long time (sipper) and in good company. The beer pours out a slightly cloudy chocolatey brown hue, soft red highlights with a foamy white cap. Aroma that I could first smell was the sweet malts. A bit of candy-like toffee too but mostly a pleasant sweetness. Flavors are really sweet, but never cloying in any way. Said candy-bar like toffee, maybe a little molasses and the sweet malts really are front and center with this beer. Excellent mouthfeel. Creamy and velvety thru and thru. A fantastic Belgian beer that I will be keeping an eye out for. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Pours a clear mohogany color with some tan head and plenty of lacing. Smells of dried and candied dark fruit, fig, rasins and very earthy. Taste is very complex. The earthy notes are the backbone to a nice and sweet fig, dried fruit and almost some cherry. Gets a little medicinal taste in the finish as it warms up. Full in the mouth but ever so smoooth. Very drinkable for such a high ABV brew. A delish experience indeed that must be tried. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Appearance is ok, the head dissapates almost completely away, but holds a good sticky lacing.
Smell is spicy and has a pepper smell. Very little flowery smells, with small traces of cloves, nutmeg, burnt sugar and dark fruit.
Sweet and spicy, I really enjoyed the taste. Burnt sugar is thick and overpowering with flavor. Dark fruit, grape taste.
Mouthfeel is creamy and carbonated, pretty smooth.
I would love to drink more of this beer if it was in my area, I would go looking for it. jbean (110), Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep ruby with almost no head, fine lacing, but does not last very long. Aroma is sweet, and the alcohol is noticable. Flavor is very sweet with a slight alcohol burn. For some reason it is very pleasant. Raisins, plums, brown sugar, alcohol and spice. Delicious and warming. Makes a great beer for a cold winter day. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA
