| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2006 Light-hazed mahogany with a spotty, tan film and a halo that remains thick, tan & creamy. Aroma starts vague and malted, revealing caramel, cherry and invasive alcohol as it warms. Flavor is sweet & vinous but majorly alcoholic, leaving a first impression of cheap wine with some cloying back-burn. As I work my way through the glass, I get a different picture of a sweet brandy or cognac. This takes some getting used to... its numbers went up considerably as my glass got emptier.

The sweetness reminded me of macaroons and was frankly a bit cloying. You can find much more pleasant and interesting Belgian Strong Ales than this… Epor (13), Finland
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 11, 2006 Bottle. Syrupy colour, not much head. Syrupy in taste too, very sweet, but it works. Very smooth, almost no alcohol detectable. Not something you’d want to drink too often, but very good occasionally. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 10, 2006 This beer was very potent in all regards. Flavor, aroma, alcohol, body, and sweetness. Actually the sweetness factor on this brew was a bit much. Cloyingly sweet actually. But still a damn good sipping beer. FlagstoneHill (211), Erie, Colorado, USA

Poured a murky brown with some hints of red and very little head. The aroma was strong with malt, yeast, plum, and caramel. It was quite sweet in taste with flavors of light brown sugar, black plum, red grapes, port wine, molasses and a strong alcohol taste on the finish, almost rum like. Very smooth on the palate, with excellent complexity. Great beer to celebrate the New Year with. Choos (504), Taylors Hill, Australia
