shrubber85 (2473), Wallhalben, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany Jul 26, 2008 Swing-top bottle. Light molasses and prune malt aroma. Dark brown color wtih moderate head. Earthy light barley malt flavor. Decent but not much flavor. gunnfryd (2732), Kristiansand, Norway Mar 24, 2008 Bottle. Copper colour with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, malt, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, caramel, malt, hint of hop. yngwie (3465), Kristiansand, Norway Mar 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear, brown to copper body with a beige head. From there, it’s just downwards. There’s malt and some caramel in the aroma, but cooked vegetables is very evident. It’s in the flavor too, but more subdued, and there’s also caramel, a slight sour touch, malty sweetness and a little bitterness. Medium to full body. Sweet, malty finish with some fruity notes and a little bitterness. I find it strange calling it a schwarzbier, and it’s far from being a good or interesting beer. (080229) MiP (4951), Flensburg, Germany Sep 15, 2007 Draught at BBF07 as just "Katharinen-Bier". Sweet, malty aroma. Very sweet flavour, even sugary. Slightly hvidtølslike. Drinkable. EithCubes (1802), Indiana, USA Aug 9, 2006 They call this a Schwarzbier but I think it’s much closer to a Dunkel. Drunk draught from an earthen Krug at the Leipziger Bierbörse. Lacing light brown head. Smells sweet, yeasty, malty; am expecting chalkiness. Dark roast malt. Taste is crisp, slightly floral hoppiness, toasted and roasted maltiness, light-bodied, smooth, and absolutely no chance this is filtered. Dry, somewhat chalky finish. Nice!
