Lots of sweetness, sugary and somewhot simple. Finishes sweet with lots of caramel. AlabastorJones (765), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2006 brown body with no head, spicey date nose, sweet spiced flavor, raisins, soggy and a little dingy on the palate, slightly bitter roast finish... kinda weird, but weird is better than normal, am i right? am i right? | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2006 Deep dark ruby color with a fizzy white head that diminishes quickly. Smells of sweet caramel and dark fruits. A yeasty flavor backed by a lot of sweet malt. Unexpectedly light on the tongue was the only turnoff for a doppelbock. Reid (1090), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2006 served from a typical Geman style brown bottle.
Dark brown beer, with ruby tints, thick creamy tan head.
Uber-malty aroma as expected, hints of cocoa and milky chocolate, cookies and creme very nice.
Thick luxuriant chocolaty malts to begin with , gets slightly thinner near the end..no hops .Slightly fruity..actually quite nice stuff.
Really nice palate to this beer, silky smooth..want to drink more.
A very nice beer, quite drinkable , in fact a good "simple"( positive) doppelbock. Oakes (8093), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2006 Kind of a dull chestnut brown colour. Brown sugar, malt and molasses aroma. Sweet, earthy, molasses malt character. The body is fairly light for the style. There is a bit of late alcohol showing. A fairly simple example. winegarner (220), san diego, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 16, 2006 A tasty beer but mediocre in comparison to other dopplebocks. The is very strong of ethanol and phenols which carry over in to a strong alcoholic flavor. Once through the alcohol there is a nice blend of caramel and chocolate. Also seems to me to be too sweet, not a nice maltiness but as if sugar was added after fermentaion. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2006 Bottled. Pour a medium amber/brown color. Aroma is fairly sweet, but not that sweet for a dopplebock. Flavor is malty right up front with hints of chocolate. Finish is slightly roasty. A hint of alcohol in the finish. frankenkitty (1902), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2005 A very dark brown/mahogany with a sizable tan heat that was creamy and lasting. Aroma is rich caramel malts with chocolate and hearty grain. Reminded me of Hershey’s Whoppers! Light phenols/chemical to start but it stabilizes to standard alcohol notes. Flavor begins sweet with lactose sugars (delusions of milkshake). Roast bitterness follows, but sweetness finishes and lingers. Nice, full body with enough alcohol to bring a smile. A 1st Class Doppel! (My notes read, "Really f’n good!)
