Clear brownish-red color with minimal head. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with a pinch of coffee. Not a lot of carbonation so it goes down smooth. Nice beer.

500 ml bottle thanks to Dickinsonbeer. Pours a deep mahoganey brown with red hues on the edges and a soapy white head which leaves no lace what so ever. fantastic malty aroma of raisins, smoke, brown bread, caramel and brown sugar. Medium bodied with light carbonation and a milky feel almost like a nitro pour. Flavor is a big let down from the aroma and seems watered down. Still a good beer but needs more flavor to live up to the aroma.

16.9oz bottle. Low, mellow carbonation. Smooth with a delicious nutty sweet and delicate brown sugar flavor. Incredibly drinkable while remaining true to style. Some musty, woody flavors and scents as well. Minimal if any hop presence, a malt whopper.

Bottle from State Line. Deep coppery pour with ruby and deep brown edges. Aroma is caramel malt, tart cherry, cereal, brown sugar, almond. Tastes caramel malty, with brown sugary, tart cherry notes, some nuts, cognacy, and some oaky notes. The look would be a 4, but the head disappears quickly, and never returns.

In line with Doppel expectations as of late. After the Oktoberfest I had last night, I can draw a comparison: doppels are like Okts with some extra oomph. At least they’re supposed to be like that; if doppels were advertised as Okts I wouldn’t have as much anticipation and potential letdown. This fared rather quite well, though. I wavered between 3.5 (7/10 = 14/20) and 15/20 but the numerical compilations gave this one a decided advantage. The aroma is subtle; give it some chances and it’ll really give you some quality grain scent.

Bottle: Watered down cola like color, thin spritzy off-white head, sparce lacing, very light carbonation.   Bready nose, slight fig/date, a lot of nuts, minor molasses.   Real nutty on the tongue, molasses thats on the non-sweet side, bready, figs, and dates.   Pretty flavorful, but it seems like it might be on the thinner side.   Finishes kinda quick, tiz clean, but not as malty sweet as I think this one deserves.   Smells and starts great, but seems to end up like most other Doppelbocks.   Still more enjoyable than most.
