(500 ml bottle (stamped "1.06" from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maryland/baltim target=blank>Wells Discount Liquors) Rich and malty. A really good "classic-type" doppel...Pours dark cola brown with about 1/2" of light tan head. Aroma is molasses and sweet hay. Mouthfeel smooth, pretty full, lightly prickly. Nice rings of lacing. Flavor is dark brown sugar and molasses with the hay sweetness and a hint of smoke. Very lightly bitter. Alcohol well-hidden. Tasty.

An excellent pour for a doppelbock, very nice one finger head that had great retention, excellent lacing. Dark brown-ruby color. The aroma was malty sweet, chocolate, some grass, and assorted bready notes. Flavor was very pleasant, definite cocoa, doughy sweet malts, spicey molasses, and a slight grassy finish with some increasing temperature. Definitely not hoppy, but a darned outstanding doppelbock, far from cloying. Mouthfeel was silky and grainy, almost like a Baltic porter in that sense. Is among the better doppelbocks I’ve had, although it wasn’t as complex as Celebrator, and not as tempered with the hops.

Bottle. Poured ruby with a big light tan head that laced the glass nicely. Good doppelbock scent, sweet doughy, caramel, malty. Figs, and dark fruit evident in the flavor a very sweet body with a touch of roast smoke. Really coats the mouth and goes down smooth. Nothing amazing but a solid doppelbock.

Dark fruit, molasses and earthy aroma; sweet and simple malt profile; lighter body for the style, clean and toasty; slightly salty finish.

Pours mahagony with a small frothy tan head that diminishes to a patchy film; no lacing. Aroma is nutty toasted caramel malt (grain, meal), trace yeast (dough), pineapple and alcohol becomes noticeable after warming. Medium bitterness, nutty caramel malt flavor, moderate sweetness replaces the bitterness, perfumey alcohol near the end, sour yeast slips in. Medium bodied, thin and oily palate.
