Sweet flavor, bready, some anise/licorice, slight tannic bitterness. Wonderfully balanced, among the best doppelbocks available. cstoreman99 (10), USA

Interesting slighlt musty aroma. Excellent smooth toasty malt flavor. Mild to moderate carbonation. Hops are wonderfully balanced. A good, chewy doppelbock. Picture yourself with good friends, a fine cigar and a warm late enening atmosphere in a German cafe. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

This is an excellent doppel, very dessert like. One of my favorites of the style. bonvivant (164), Smithfield, Virginia, USA

Well balanced with a nice hop presence. If you like German Doppelbocks than this one is a must try! Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 3, 2003 Dark brown to black color, small tan head that faded fast.Malty, caramel aroma with a very nice sweet side to it.The flavor is malty caramel and fairly sweet, with just a super fast hint of alcohol at the beginning. The brew gets even better as it warms getting more caramel all the time and even sweeter, the alchol does show up just a bit more when warmed. It gets a little more pronounced in the middle and end of the taste. The after taste is sweet caramel and malt with a mild amount of alcohol (on the way down) and as for the hops i just can't detect them .This is a hell of a nice brew and fairly well balanced.I wish i had more of these for later but i guess i'll have to be content with the one. Thanks Raindog for another fine brew. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands

Very dark appearance. Aroma and flavour of roasted malts, coffee, bit winey. Very well balanced. I've only tried it once, but it could well be the best beer of this year's holiday. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Rich, warming and pleasantly round-mouthed, this dark amber d-b is like good rye bread in a glass! Almost chewy. This is how a d-b is supposed to feel in your mouth, so smooth you hardly want to swallow it. I actually prefer this to Salvator and Optimator. This is smoother, rounder, deeper, and richer than either of them.
