The flavor is a little light and thin, and could be a little bit more full bodied, but the flavors that are present are quite tasty. Some light spice and caramel round out the toasty flavor profile. Not bad. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 18, 2006 (500 ml bottle: $2.59 at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, CA) First off, according to the imprinted date, this beer was bottled on the 14th day of, hey wait, the month and year on the brown label have blocked out! Every other part of the label is shiny except those two white blocks. I’m less than pleased. Pouring the beer, carbonation is pretty low, as the thin head is mostly a few large bubbles along with a ring and partial sheen. The beer itself is light brown in color and fairly clear. Both the flavor and nose are heavily earthy, but also very malty, caramely, toasty, mildly sweet and gently bitter. A bit of slight oxidation and breadiness are present in the finish. Medium bodied, somewhat dry on the palate, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. This is almost certainly a very old bottle, but it’s held up remarkably well. Aside from the obvious earthiness, it’s quite pleasant and doesn’t show significant signs of oxidation and no cardboard. Decent. But I’m still pissed that the date’s been blocked out. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Pours a deep caramel body with a modest, creamy tan head. The aroma is a tad light, but filled with dark caramel with milk chocolate. Rather thin bodied, perhaps a bit watery. Tasty, tho’ - caramel with chocolate and dark brown sugar. Just a bit too thin, and could use more carbonation.

Distant fruit tastes come through as well. Mouthfeel is moderate with a balanced carbonated feel to it. Some spice coming through as well. Finish is light caramel with mild spice and yeast.
