The aroma has notes of straw and hay on a lightly malty back ground. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and citrusy herbs, leading to a nicely bitter finish. Clear golden honey colored body with a small white head. Fresh hay in the nose, some squash, some crisp biscuit and cracker malts, and a light honey sweetness as well. Flavor is pretty similar, with lots of fresh cut hay, some dried leaves, some squash, and some pils malt. Very fresh, very tasty, nothing too overdone. Very nice. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2001 Updated: Mar 31, 2007Bottle (newer/different labels). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, bread), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with light notes of honey and peach. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. A bit too sweet for drinking much of, but it’s clean, juicy, and pleasant. This is of the golden-colored variety of festbiers (don’t expect a Vienna), which seems to throw Americans off for some reason. I’ve been rating this here in Colorado since 2002, and it still has only 25 ratings? Weird. bhensonb (4384), Woodland, California, USA

Will elaborate later, if I can do that from home. Bottle from Liquid Solutions in Portland, OR. Light golden color - but it is tinged with something that makes it quite attractive. The white head whiffed away at once. Warm malty aroma with a touch of hop. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is malty with a touch of yeast and some fruitness. Tends toward pale lager, malt liquor and something a bit darker than either of those. It varies. Unexpected flavors. Finishes non-bitter
