Peachy and malty in aroma and flavor...some raisin, honey, caramel, liquorice and sour wheat notes. Significant carbonation and a finish of honey and light citrus fruit. I find this quite pleasant and refreshing though I’d probably not drink more than one. While not an Aventinus it’s quite drinkable for those that like sweet malts and significant carbonation. | 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Jul 8, 2007 500ml bottle: Muddy, muddy, muddy. What little head there is disappears almost immediately. Kind of a fruity, yeasty aroma. Very fruity flavor, almost like a fruit punch. Moderately yeasty, but otherwise not a lot of a beer character. Odd. Active head that faded quickly, with no lacing. Nose is peach/raisin/spice, but I hesitate to place clove as the spice. Flavor is overly sweet without having a lot of body to back it up. I don’t mind drinking it, but having just recently tried Avery #13, I’ll take that instead. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA

Fairly pale for a Bock titled brew; still it is a rich amber color and is quite hazy. It is topped by a large frothed, initially one-finger thick, quickly disappearing, light tan colored head. The aroma is quite fruity; notes of plums, apple cider, a touch of raisin, and a hint of clove. The aroma is quite a bit thinner than I was expecting, or put another way it is not nearly as rich as I would have liked.
Fairly sweet tasting, that accentuates a finish that has a solid Weizen-like clove flavor. This beer has a light carbonation to it that adds a bit of zest to the middle of this beer. Flavors of apple cider (both sweet & hard varieties) are perhaps one of the most noticeable flavors. The finish is marred by a touch of vegetal flavors and perhaps a phenolics note that is a bit beyond clove. This is really not all that good; the flavors, as well as the palate, seem washed out. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2007 Bottle. Had this with lunch at the Bier Garden in Portsmouth. Came out a muddy rust color with a speckled, tall tan head. Nose was spot on for a weizen bock. Soft spices, bready notes, sweet malts, banana, and wheat. Taste is more sweet malts, candyish fruits, some banana, soft yeast, wheat and caramel. Body is medium with soft carbonation. Finishes with more banana, soft spices, wheat and caramel. Sweet maltiness throughout. Went REALLY well with my lunch, too. Think a poor mans Aventinus. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 5, 2007 Bottle: Dirty apple cider looking, hazy, muddy, fizzy off-white head, with hardly any lacing. This one looks almost still. Sweet bready nose, slight pale fruit skin, perhaps a smidgen of dark pitted fruit. Pretty much the same on the tongue. Not as complex as other examples, namely Aventinus. Fairly clean, enjoyable, but somewhat plain. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. While it appears still, its a bit more lively on the tongue. Sweet malty finish, not very wheaty nor bockish. Not sure how you would classify this one. It seems more of a Pale Bock than anything. Not bad, but doesn’t seem as close to style as others. Stick with Aventinus if you want something tasty and representative of the style.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2007 Just slightly muddy in clarity, soft light brown in color. Sharp woody bananas and Belgian-style yeast, some bread crust and maple and light spices, but the banana is most prominent. Sweet banana and pear flavor, thin and a little crisp, light but not unexpected or unwelcome. Sweet overall, heavy sweet caramelized bananas tasted. Good but not great.
