coldbrewky (503), Saugerties, New York, USA Sep 17, 2007 Updated: May 4, 20089 oz. Draft at the brewpub/bar this evening after dinner. My wife has rated this as "very stinky. I was a bit distracted by the lonely/crazy guy who was telling me about how his longtime digital watch had finally given up its ghost and that he was pissed that he couldn’t find a replacement battery. After telling him that the battery was probably worth more than the watch I figured he would go away or just shut up. I was wrong. This aside in no way took anything away from the enjoyment that was pulled from tasting this fabulous brew on draft. The pony glass is a deep amber with minimal head. The gentle honey nose must be pulled from the glass as if it doesnt wish to part from this beer. Sweet malts prevail and are expertly melded with hops and oak chips? A doubleshot of mouthfeel rolls about the cheeks in waves of oaky sweet hoppiness. In retrospect I am happy that I was not burdened with the 1 Liter bottle. that wouyld have put me in a coma. Maria and Bert....Enjoy. I wish I had another....well theres always tomorrow. 4/25/2008: Two more at the brewpub wih lunch. Great with grilled chicken. Maria (4418), Thisted, Denmark Mar 15, 2008 Tasting at Ølbaren 2008.03.11 - Thank you Steve/Coldbrewky for sending me this one a year ago or so! It’s bottle 120 of 250. Orange golden with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of oak, malt, citrus, grapefruit and fruits - it’s very complex. The flavour has notes of oak, flower, fruit, honey, vanilla, malt, lime and other citrus, alcohol and a nice bitterness. It’s a delicious and exciting beer. sloth (1538), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Mar 22, 2008 Hand bottled on 12/06, 1 ltr swing top numbered 1fordy out of 2fiddy generously donated to the cause by my little newyawk buddy, coldbrewky. Thanks a bunch steve!! Poured a small tan head with good staying power and some thin stringy lace that hangs on till the end. Lightly hazy amber body with a red glow. Fruity, woody nose with light citrus, light earthiness and some honey suckley notes, an inviting arome for sure. Body is med/full coating on the palate but cleansing at the same time, wood effect? Clean oak flavors backed by a subdued hoppiness and some lightly sweet malts, caramel, light honey and vanilla notes, faint citrus and some cedary notes as well. Finish is mildly sweet, oaky and fruity. Alot going on here, very entertaining and well balanced to say the least, 12%?! A nice surprise from Keegan ales considering the quality of some of their other brews i,ve tried.Gawd i love me some oak aged brews! Sir, may i please have another? joergen (6529), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 12, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Maria for sharing.
Hazy amber coloured with a small white ehad.
Sweet aroma of dried fruits, caramel, hops and pine needles.
Sweet flavour of dried fruits, caramel, hops, pine nedles and grass with notes of alcohol.
Hoppy and warming alcoholic finish.
Nice. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 4, 2008 Tap at HDG. This was also one of my favorites of the day. Pours a deep ruby amber with nice red highlights, and a thin lasting head- some sticky hoppy lace. Aroma is syrupy sweet and big- full of toasted and bready malts, tacky caramel and molasses- with nice blance of thick citrusy and resinous hops- good pine as well. Syrupy sweet flavor- with tons of piney and light smokey hops- resinous and pine sol, and toffee sweetness. Sweet and full bodied- good finish. Reminded me of the Troegs #4 but this one was even bigger. Nice ASA/hoppy barleywine.
