afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 18, 2009 From a 22oz bottle at Otto’s. Poured a very pale clear gold with a thin crackling head that disappeared in an instant. Smells of fresh apple juice, slightly tart. The flavor was crisp and dry, lots of fresh apple flavor, slight band-aid characteristic. I’ve only had a couple ciders so I’m no expert but this was half decent. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2009 Sampled from a 750ml brown bottle this cider poured a very pale yellow color with only a trace of a white head. The aroma was sharp and crisp apple. The flavor was dry, faintly nutty and had a light tart apple presence with a touch of vinegar in the finish. More dry than I am used to but enjoyable. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2009 Sample from Otto’s. Pours pale gold with maragarita tinge and minimal head. Nose and flavor and tart green apple, with a tart flavor and a smooth finish. A solid cider, similar to the mass brands. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Jun 2, 2009 22oz Bottle at the brewpub. Aroma casts a slightly almost vinegar-like snap of clear, filtered apple cider. Plain apples. Pours an amazingly clear and pale peachy gold, with a faint wisp of perfectly white head. Flavor varies. First, some generic fermented cider and sulfites. Then a peculiar kind of aged apple skin, almost rotty and rubbery sensation that’s not entirely pleasing. Then a fade into a bit of biting metallic sensation. I’m not particularly enjoying this, but then I don’t drink many ciders or fermented beverages with sulfites. I did appreciate the sweetness level. It seemed rather dry, although my champagne-fancying thought it ebbed sweet but was just a touch away from being a perfect, apple version of champagne. She did happily quaff the entire bottle. I’m excited they’ve turned a local apple orchard into a cider element at Otto’s. So, keep up the work!
