Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
Smooth, dark & dangerous, this ale is designed to warm the cockles of your heart whilst sitting round the ingle after a long, cold winters day outdoors. Although dark and robust, the aftertones of liquorice & blackcurrent make this an ale of complex character, not to be missed.

(Cask at Edgar Wallace, Strand, London, 26 Nov 2009) Dark brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of freshly ground coffee, dark fruit and nuts. Malty, roasted taste with fresh coffee, nuts, dried fruit and a slightly bittersweet finish. Overall a very nice and well balanced beer.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark brown with a small off white head. Rough earthy malt aroma with a little burnt toast. Sweet malty taste with a little sour fruit and a mid bitter finish. Really good, in my opinion.

Cask-conditioned@The Blue Blazer, Edinburgh. A firm, two-finger latte head over a dark brown, slightly hazed body. Aroma is toasted, lightly spiced, dark malty. Medium malt body, roasted, medium sweet and caramelly. Some spices, with grassy and earthy hop bitterness. Mid-bodied, soft in the mouth. Rounded, malty and hoppy finish. Solid and straightforward.

Cask, half pint at Doctors in Edinburgh. Beautiful dark brown content with a low, beige bubbling head. Sweet malty smell with fruits coming through. Fruitlike malts up front in flavour followed by dark chocolate and a touch of anise. Dry hoppy ending. Good autumn beer [24.10.2008].
