This beer has a very tingly palate. A mild roasted flavor emerges as it warms. I get a bit of pepper on my tongue. A quick finish, but some lingering hops continue. Has a pleasant finishing tartness. bluevegie (2197), Perth, Australia
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 2, 2004 Thought this came across more as an English Bitter than a Brown Ale still it was enjoyable enough. Brown body with a short but lasting head and layers of lacing. Caramel in the taste as well as being creamy and nuttty. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jun 18, 2003 I occasionally have this on tap when I see it. It is an inoffensive beer with a small amount of pleasing qualities. Not a harsh as a Tooheys old and therefore a little more balanced. I used to drink this as a fifty with Reschs draught in the dim dark past with my old man. Beer tasted better then, but like all memories it is tempered by lack of experience and the thrill of drinking a beer when underage. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Mar 11, 2005 Hugely inferior rival to Tooheys Old in the Aussie macro ’old’ stakes. Makes Old seem like a masterpiece. Poured an amber colour, which as Mullet says, barely meets the criterion for a brown ale. Skinny head is gone in 60 seconds. Horrible artificial-smelling aroma with faint chocolate notes. Desperately thin on body and flavour. Cardboardy malt is the dominant flavour. Bit of caramel if you look for it. Burp-inducing carbonation. Little or no finish. Pretty disgraceful. (Bottle, best before 30/11/05)
