Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy Beershine/Oakes. Pours a dark copper color, with a foamy white head, and prominent sheets of lacing. Aromas of pungent hops pound the nose with grapefruit and sticks to the nostrils. Bitter and hoppy, the flavors have lots of grapefruit and citrus, and a noticeable alcohol warmth. Bitter bite balances it well with a malty finish. Enjoyable and drinkable.

Poured a hazed copper color with an off-white head. Floral and citrus aroma that covers most of the sweet malt. Floral hops and caramel malt flavor. Citrus in the middle. Medium bodied.

Bottle shared by dickensonbeer. hazy amber beer, thin white head. Some berry and chewy sweetness. A soft fruity berriness. Lightly herbal and resiny. A soft citrus fruitiness. It’s nice but a bit non-descript.

22oz bottle from Irishboy. Mostly bright hops on the nose. Plenty of fruit zest, a touch of wine with a heavy bready malt backbone. Pours dark copper with a decent sized white head leaving so so lacing. Flavor had a lot of bready malt, heavy citrus zest bitterness and a touch of copper metalicness. Medium bodied. Bright hops on the finish. Not outstanding. Should be re named Slightly Better Than Average IPA.

Shared, thanks to dickinsonbeer. Orange pour. Aroma is citrusy, tropical hops, some pine and sweet malt. Flavor is bitter, citrus hops, and with a crisp water-like finish. A little different than some of the IPAs I have had recently, and that is a good thing.

Pours very dark for an IPA, bordering on a burnt dark-orange to brown color and quite hazy. A foamy, snow white head settles to a thin blanket with a thick edge, leaving patchy lacing behind along the way. Aromas of malty caramel and nougat show slight buttery notes, while orange and grapefruit hops do their best to keep up. The flavor is again malt dominant, wit the bitter citrus simply outmatched by the sweet malty contingent. There’s a bit of an alcohol bite here, which is unexpected at 7.5% ABV. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Decent brew, but nothing special.

Big thanks to Odeed for this bonus bomber!
Pours a nice amber color with a nice offwhite head. Some lacing on the glass. Smell is balanced grainy maltiness and nicely fruity and piney hops. Taste has a bit of a gummy, fruity, floral quality about it, with a pleasant fruity hop flavor to match. Medium bodied with a touch of gummy chewiness. Really a clean, solid IPA.
