Commercial Description:
Cold Smoke Scotch Ale earned a silver medal in 2002 and a gold medal in the 2007 NABA brewfest. Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. It packs a 6.5% abv punch. Perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway. Available in 16 oz aluminum cans. 6.5 % abv (alcohol by volume); 11 IBUs (International Bittering Units)

One of the best beers that I have had. The finish is one of the best for a scotch type ale. Great beer for after a long day of shredding some freshy fresh Montana gnar gnar.

Nitro pint at the brewery taproom; Perfect visual - pitch black with a solid bathfoam head, so firm I can write in it with my finger. Nice tight peat-malt aroma. Sexy drinker, smooth, lightly smoky, lightly roasty, full of character. #2931, 5/19/2007)

From the can. This was a really nice scotch ale, while not as bold in flavors as something like Skull Splitter, this was a very well built sessionable scotch. Subtle smoke and earthy caramel flavors balanced out by a fruity and peaty finish, delicate hops balance but don’t distract from the malts which are the real stars of the show. This beer could really finds its place in the PDX market, there aren’t enough good scotch ales here. This is what I want when i’m camping.

Good beer in a can. Rich copper look with a nice creamy head. A heavy swirl of the glass mixes up a nice aroma. Rich spicy malt and hop scent. A nice beer. Starting sweetness. Dryer finish. Nice malty flavour with a touch of peat. A good session beer. A couple of jugs would be nice for a hockey game.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark garnet-hued body wtih a small, bubbly, whiteish head. Smell: Peaty, malty aroma of caramel candy, toasted nuts, and even some chocolate. Taste: Toasty, nutty malts with a mild sweetness. Light peat character. Sprinkle of cocoa powder. Mildly earthy bitterness. Slight taste of pitted fruits. Mildly sweet, relatively clean finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Not a bad lil’ scotch ale, though I could stand and would appreciate a ramped up peaty smokiness.

Can: Pours amber with a large, creamy sand colored head. Rich aroma of malts, peat, some sweetness, and a little smokey. Smooth taste with a malty sweet character, smoke, a little roasty and dry, ligh bitters, and a bit of the proclaimed "coffee tail." Not as sweet and fruity as some scotch ales; more earthy, floral, and smokey. Very easy to drink.
