Commercial Description:
Olde Bongwater Hemp Porter was named by Kevin Head at The Rhino, a bar in Missoula. He originally wanted the beer as a house beer. It was such a hit, that others started asking for it. Now, you can find it in bars across western Montana. Some have criticized us of glorifying marijuana or giving hemp a bad image. We intend to do neither. Taste it & you’ll agree - it is GOOD!

Cask Stillage from the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 26/09/2009 Hop and roast aromas. Beige head. Black smooth and a little rich on the palate with some dryness in a crisp oaty roast finish.

Draught at the Brewpub: Dark black, tan head, good lacing. Nose of light roast, just a faint hemp note, maybe it’s just in my mind. The flavor is rich with cocoa and chocolate, sweet mocha roast and light lactose. Chewables in the finish. Good.

Picked up single 16-oz can at the brewery’s taproom in Missoula, Montana. Pours a dark opaque near black brew with a thin tan head that dissolves to a tan ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, dark bittersweet chocolate, some mocha, and a touch of flowery hops. Taste is smooth, creamy, full bodied with some roasted malt and earthy herbal flavors. Finish is smooth, slick with a light chocolate and herbal spice aftertaste. Hemp in the beer? Man was I wise not to take a return trip through Utah to bring this back to Minnesota. That Utah State Trooper would have made things quite difficult for me.

Many thanks to the king of the west, Skyview. Black color with a thick head. Roasted malt aroma and fairly herbal. Strong roasted malt flavor with what I would only assume to be a big hemp flavor, not that I’ve chewed on a lot of hemp leaves in my life... Bitter finish. Dang tasty.

GABF '03. Love the name, didn't care for the beer. Too light in taste in my opinion to be a decent porter.

A very simple beer. From a can. Black color. The aroma is simple roasted malt, and the flavor is lightly roasted with only a hint of coffee. No flaws at least.

GABF 2003: Ruby color with a average off-white head. Chocolate aroma, watery/fizzy mouthfeel. Decent for a porter.

Thanks to skyview for sharing. One of the better beers from Kettle House that he provided. Nice roasted malt and faint coffee aroma. Solid roasted malt body.
