I tried it last weekend at excellent Belgian coastal city Ostend beer pub Botteltje, and will not hide my amazement about this new beer from brewery Strubbe. It is clear that brewmaster Marc Strubbe has made a masterpiece ! West-Flanders Ichtegem based brewery Strubbe is doing very well lately. With new beers like Keyte Tripel, Wittoen Tripel, and the wonderful oak aged Ichtegem’s Oud Bruin, things going the good direction ! On top of all this delicious new beers, a new brown Trappist-alike brew has been introduced. And what an introduction this is ! Keyte Oosténdse Dobbel Tripel at 9.2 vol% has become one of my favorit beers today. This abbey style Keyte Oosténdse Dobbel Tripel can easily be classified alongside other masterpieces like Rochefort 10, Westvleteren 12, Achel Extra, etc... The creamy beige head is just phenomenal. Nice dark-red colors. Bottle refermented, non-pasteurized, non-filtered. Again the proof that tripel style is not always a blond colored beer. Nosing the glass gives amazing Trappist appearances: candi sugar, caramel maltiness, and those typical flowery aromas. Hops are just perfect balanced ! Tasting confirms the nose. In addition, I notice that most welcome creamy mouth feeling. This, in combination with the softness of the beer, makes it to order a second consumption in no time. People, this is an angel pissing on your tongue !!!!

A very sweet and lovely strawberry beer. With a sweet touch without extreme sugar taste, but candy sugar and creamy, very soft.

Location: On tap at the Cap Ale House, Richmond, VA, late November 2008.

Not 100% I’m rating the right beer here, but I had a "Strubbe Dobbel Tripel" on Tap, so I’m guessing. Was a solid, flavorful Belgian style beer. Something I would definitely drink again.

Bottle, bought @ Bierpaleis, Brügge.
Pours deep, golden red with a fine, frothy, beige head. Aroma has lots and lots of dried fruits. Plums, raisins, coriander, alcohol. Some raspberries (probably from the trappist yeast). Medium carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Nice, elegant flavour. Lots of fruit, dried raisins, fresh raspberries. Wonderful warming sensation. A bit spicy as well. Just a hint of sweet, milky chocolate. A very good quad, actually.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with a red tint, head is beige. Aroma is sweet dark fruits and caramel malts. Taste is filled with fruit yet has a suttle sugary malt. This balances it off a bit and provides a very tasty beer.

330 ml bottle. Almost clear, reddish brown body with a big beige head. Aroma is sweet fruity , slightly roasted caramel, candy sugar and some spices. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, dry fruit and some alcohol. A rich and complex beer.
