Appearance: Pours out a fairly clear, mahogany-hued body with, despite my ever so eager pour, only managed to form a finger worth of white head which fizzled out pretty quickly.
Smell: Caramelly maltiness leads the bouquet, with a lighter note of standard bread crusts. Supporting hop notes of fresh herbs with a minor, background hint of lemon rind.
Taste: Pale malts welcome in additions of bread crusts and sweet-tasting caramel. As with the nose, the caramel is the strongest component in regards to the malts. Hops present a spicy, zesty herbaceousness with the faintest hint of powderized lemon pith. Medium amount of bitterness overall. The back half is largely toasty with more of the persistent bitterness holding on until the dry, bitterish finish.
Mouthfeel: Just barely squeaks into being medium-bodied. Medium-light carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent brew that has a solid backing of caramelly malts and a sufficient, predominately English hop character. italianjohn (360), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a deep, clear amber with a small cream-colored head that recedes to a thin layer of soapy bubbles and leaves decent lacing.
The aroma is fairly malty with lots of sweet caramel malts and the hops are there but not overpowering. The hops are fairly earthy with only faint hints of citrus and with more spiciness than I was expecting.
The taste is also much more earthy and malty than I was expecting. There is a big caramel malt base with the hops being more spicy than anything else. There is a lingering bitterness in the finish but much more tea-like than hoppy.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and is actually quite good for the style. It’s creamy but with a nice tingling bitterness.
This is a solid beer that really relies on the malt presence for the flavor and brings very little to the table in terms of hops. It’s more an English-style pale than American. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Bottle from Brusin’ Ales, Asheville. Pours a clear red amber with a thin beige ring of a head. Lots of caramel malts in the nose, mostly old and slightly oxidized. Thin to medium body, more of those malts that are too syruppy and take on a grassy astringent bitter finish that dries out from the alcohol. Other than that finish and a hint of flavor, the alcohol is pretty well hidden. This is probably best guaranteed fresh on tap. Not that great at this point. durhambeer (1214), Durham, USA
