Commercial Description:
Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

The beer has a rich, dark color. It seems darker than a typical amber. The aroma is mild and malty. The flavor is more malt with a dry finish.

A fairly simple amber seeming exhibiting more lager character rather than ale. Color is a magnificent amber-brown, flowing through the colors from top to bottom.Smoke is immediately apparent in the scent, as a sweet, smoky maltiness. Flavor also significantly malty, with grass and a definite hop underbite. Good, but missing... something.

Bottle from the KIRKLAND Costco, thanks scrizz! Pours nearly clear dark amber with an off-white head. Lightly pine-tinged caramel aroma. Body and carbonation tending to light. A little brown sugar and some more pine in the taste. Barely bitter. All in all, a rather boring brew. Probably goes well with food.

Aroma is a little bready with a hint of toast and roast. Lightly sweet and a minimal hop presence is there as well. Pours dark amber with an actually nice frothy lasting head. Toasty, light roast, and some light sweet malt, a touch of metal, and a rather lightly hopped finish.

Clear darkish toffee, small bubbly white head with a touch of tan. Sweet brown sugar and baked bread aroma. Thin soft malt backbone, little metallic in the finish, not much hops for balance.

Some friends had the sampler pack at our camping trip for Memorial Day, and while I was busy feting them with good beer, I figured I’d give this a shot just to take a break from all the high abv stuff. Poured out a light amber into my Firestone Walker pint glass with a thin tan head and no lacing. Aroma was caramel and yeast, and flavor much the same with possibly the lightest hint of a citric hop. Refreshing in the heat, but not much else good I can say about it.

Clear light amber color with an ecru head and a little lace. Aroma is toasted wheat bread with some nuttiness and diacetyl. Flavor is not much different except for vague notes of caramel, iced tea, and metal. Thin and watery mouthfeel, drinkable but not very good. Not exactly a big surprise.
