Commercial Description:
Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

Clear light amber color with an ecru head and a little lace. Aroma is toasted wheat bread with some nuttiness and diacetyl. Flavor is not much different except for vague notes of caramel, iced tea, and metal. Thin and watery mouthfeel, drinkable but not very good. Not exactly a big surprise.

bottle bb 6/11/09... crystal clear pale amber with a soft tannish off white head and light spotty lace. smells sweet and crystal-y with some flowers, a bit of earthy wood and some burnt caramel. it tastes crystal-y too... ooh, and diacetyl mixed with caramel, metal and flowers... that butterscotch really shines in the aftertaste! light to medium bodied with a faint acidity and buttery oily mouth feel. ick, the worst of the four... but at least it was free! 4/3/3/2/5/1.7

Nice color, good foam with decent retention, a smooth malt flavor, but too little carbonation for my liking. Once again, the price weighs in heavily.

12oz bottle. Have had about three of these from the varity box and seem to get something different each time. Just wish it got etter but jit didn’t. Some caramel, sweet malt, metal and stale notes for aromas. Dark golden body with good off white head. Flavors from the beer consisted of mild to medium sweet malt, some medicine syrup and mild bittering. Mild to medium average brew.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small head. Aroma and flavors are semi-sweet malt, with some light hops. Decent amber.

12oz Bottle – Costco – Olympia, WA
Aroma: Malt aroma was pleasant with a light hops in the background.
Appearance: Amber in color, clear with a thin head.
Flavor: Amber malt flavor with a light hops flavor. Nothing too much.
Palate: Dry finish, with a Decent Mouthfeel.
Overall: Nothing over the top just something to wet the whistle.

12oz bottle. Dark copper with a lasting off-white head. Light grassy hops, light alcohol and some toasty malt in the aroma. Pretty balanced between lightly toasty and caramel malt and lightly bitter hops. A bit thin in the mouth with prickly carbonation. Definitely the best of the Kirkland pack, but still not great.

Terrible - stale ape sweat, wet dog skunked malt base. Overly sweet with a soapy skunky. Moderate caramel sweetness with a soapy hop citrus note.
