Commercial Description:
An authentic German style lager brewed with pilsner, dark-roasted Munich, and dark caramel malts. The result is a deep, golden-colored beer with smooth body. The best ingredients create the best beer. We use a bottom-fermenting yeast strain from the Weihenstephan yeast bank from Freising, Germany, and aroma hops from the renowned Hallertau region in Southern Germany. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 22 IBU. Contract brewed under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

Bottle from the KIRKLAND Costco, thanks scrizz! Pours kinda dark for a PALE lager, somewhat lacy white head. A bit of bread and grass in the aroma. Nutty taste. Nice rounded body, medium carbonation and crisp finish. This beer seems to be a lot closer to a Marzen than a pale lager.

Aroma is a little skunky grassy with some sweetness and grainy/bready malts. Pours a darker golden color with a thin head. The flavor is lightly sweet and grassy with an unobtrusive crisp finish. Boring, but not the worst thing I have ever had either.

Bought at the Kirkland Costco. Clear light copper, small spongy white head. Lightly sweetened grape-nut aroma. Lightly sweet, simple, sweet finish. Very smooth, lacks the yeast character I find offensive in other pale lagers. I enjoyed this beer, though it may not be in line with the style.

Hmm, seems like a cross between a Maibock and a lite lager. I loved it, unlike most raters and beer snobs. We just love to crack on mass retailers and macro brews. It had a delicious malt aroma and flavor, not overpoweringly bitter or sweet, just balanced. I could drink this ALL DAY and be quite drunk and happy. Certainly better than most other "Pale Lagers." But that’s my opinion, what’s yours?

Pepper grass nose with some slight nectarine biscuits. Deep amber/gold color, thick frothy head. Slight citrus jam cracker sweetness, restrained bitterness for balance. Good carbonation, medium body, crisp, but lengthy spicy hop finish. Easy to drink, some nice features, and finish really stands out. A simple beer with some sophistication.

Gold pour with white head. Nose is grainy with some sugary sweetness. Flavor is wheat/wet grain with corn syrup with an off finish flavor.

I have only had this once and that may not be enough to truly judge it but it was not a bad beer by any means. Llight body, average carbonation, overall pretty good.

pale lager?...bb 6/18/09 pours crystal clear darker than golden color with a short lived barely off white head. faint smell of grain, lager yeast, fruitiness and noble type hops. not a bunch happening in the flavor department. it is pretty much like the aroma with a clean finish. medium bodied, refreshing, smooth and easy drinking though i’m glad i didn’t pay for it! 5/3/5/3/12/2.8
