Commercial Description:
Here is your German lesson for the day-Hefeweizen translates to mean “wheat and yeast,” and our beer takes that to heart. Containing a high percentage of malted wheat and a proprietary yeast strain, we have produced an American version of the classic German specialty. A high level of effervescence and a low level of bitterness make this beer truly refreshing. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 16 IBU. Contract brewed under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

Bottle: Pours a lightly hazy orange color. Light esters of banana and clove on the nose with a touch of citrus. Wheat and husky pale malt abound in the body. Creamy mouthfeel and a light snappy bitter bite in the tail. All-in-all not a bad german hefe, blows the doors off the american wheat beers.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Appearance: Hazy gold with a good sized, foamy, white head. Decent head retention. Aroma: Light but standard wheat and yeast notes, a little lemon and spice. Taste: Medium wheatiness (if you can call it that), some light spice and banana notes. Fairly inoffensive, but lacking much in the way of taste too. Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium light, slightly watery mouthfeel. Short, wheaty finish. Overall: I really think this was in Kirkland’s wheelhouse. It isn’t the best you’ve had but it isn’t the worst and it has a really reasonable price point. Definitely more a beer for the masses than the beer geeks on this site.

Bottle. Cloudy gold with a tall white head. Aroma is big wheat with soft candied fruit, faint spice and big yeast notes. Taste is wheat, soft bubblegum, light hops, and big yeast notes. Not that much sweetness or fruit to this. Rather disappointing, taste-wise. Body is light and very bubbly. Ends with more yeast, big wheat and soft bubblegum. Still not much banana or sweet malt.

Rather mediocre. I was expecting some fruitiness to mingle with my tongue, but the beer went down dull and uninteresting. Alcohol in the flavour. Bread. Not terrible and certainly drinkable, but wouldn’t really satisfy a hefeweizen craving.

Bottle from the KIRKLAND Costco, the last in the series, thanks scrizz! Pours lightly hazy dark gold with a lacy but fading white head. Some spice, some banana, a bit of grass and some strange background notes in the aroma. Grainy lemon and cereal taste with a vaguely metallic finish. Maybe I let this get too warm before tasting it?

German Hefeweizen? Dude baby poop is not a bad description. Somewhat sweet, but kind of funky in a gone bad kind of way. Pours a hazy golden with a thin head. The flavor is sweet and full of cereal notes with a little lemon in the finish. The weird sweet note that was in the aroma pervades throughout. This was a lot worse than the lager. Pretty spritzy carbonation, light, and pretty bad.

Bought at the Kirkland Costco. Aroma is of bile. I thought it was like newborn baby poop, my wife thought it was more like vomit. I’m not trying to be clever here. Still, I gave it a 2 because it wasn’t wholly repulsive and didn’t entirely deter me from drinking it and once settled I noticed some lemon. Hazy light copper, lasting head. Initial carbonic bite leads to a strong, gritty, light bodied, wheat forward mouthfeel, bit dirty in the finish. I miss any banana or clove character from the yeast.

A drinkable ale that tastes like they took the Kirkland "German Style Lager" and fermented it with an American wheat yeast.
