Commercial Description:
Here is your German lesson for the day-Hefeweizen translates to mean “wheat and yeast,” and our beer takes that to heart. Containing a high percentage of malted wheat and a proprietary yeast strain, we have produced an American version of the classic German specialty. A high level of effervescence and a low level of bitterness make this beer truly refreshing. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 16 IBU. Contract brewed under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

Bottle: Pours a lightly hazy orange color. Light esters of banana and clove on the nose with a touch of citrus. Wheat and husky pale malt abound in the body. Creamy mouthfeel and a light snappy bitter bite in the tail. All-in-all not a bad german hefe, blows the doors off the american wheat beers.

Bottle from Costco - Cincy. Poured a hazy yellow color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus and light spice aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is another just above average drinkable brew.

Bottle from Costco! Hazy pale gold color with a decent white head. Rather citric aroma. Near medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is lemon, hidden banana, and a touch of metal. Also grain. Rather refreshing. Works.

Bottle. Cloudy gold with a tall white head. Aroma is big wheat with soft candied fruit, faint spice and big yeast notes. Taste is wheat, soft bubblegum, light hops, and big yeast notes. Not that much sweetness or fruit to this. Rather disappointing, taste-wise. Body is light and very bubbly. Ends with more yeast, big wheat and soft bubblegum. Still not much banana or sweet malt.

Tallahassee, Fl - Costco - 12 oz bottle - part of a 24 bottle variety pak for $18.99 - not a bad deal. Dark golden pour, slightly murky, with a sticky white head. Aroma has some brief hard candy sweetness to it - but no real hefe qualities. Flavor has some dull banana sweetness, and just a hint of bubblegum and some ripening vegetable notes. Mouthfeel is slightly metallic and starchy. Sub-par - expected a bit better from Gordon Biersch.

Bottle. Hazy amber beer with a cream colored head. Wheat, spice, and yeast aroma. Wheat/malt, light spice, and light citrus flavor. Medium body. Malt, wheat, and yeast linger.

German Hefeweizen? Dude baby poop is not a bad description. Somewhat sweet, but kind of funky in a gone bad kind of way. Pours a hazy golden with a thin head. The flavor is sweet and full of cereal notes with a little lemon in the finish. The weird sweet note that was in the aroma pervades throughout. This was a lot worse than the lager. Pretty spritzy carbonation, light, and pretty bad.

Bottle. Aroma of wheat and yeast but rather mild. Pale gold color with decent white head. Flavor of toast and some citrus with the bitterness added. Decent on the palate. Good brew while playing cards.
