Poured a pretty clear chestnut color with a small off-white head. Sweet sugary aroma and flavor of molasses and some dark fruit. The aroma and flavor were a little thin though.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark ruby under a small beige head that faded to a whispy film quickly. Aroma is sweet malt with some caramel, toffee, and a little syrupy chocolate. Flavor is a little thin, very sweet up front with light chocolate malt. Finish is short and has a little oxidation creeping in late. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation, watery in texture. Overall, a decent beer, but a little too sweet for a Dunkle in my opinion.

Pours a very clear mahogany brown with an almost-tan head that holds as a thick film. Aromas are dry and grainy with a dose of caramel, coffee grounds and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is overall malty and candy-sweet with a mid-bodied presence. Sessionable and none-too-complex, but even after four pints I flounder for descriptives as I try to dissect it.

(05.03.06) One pint, 0.9 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. Poured clear reddish brown with small white head. Soft carbonation. Sweet malt and prune aroma. Medium bodied beer that starts with light malt sweetness and caramel, dried fruit (prune?), and toasted malt. Finished with light malt fade and light bitterness. Excellent drinkable malty beer.

Bottle. Lightly smokey chocolate malt aroma - subtle and very nice. Clear dark bronw with moderate head that quickly collapses. Brown sugar malt flavor - little carbonation and no hops. A decent dunkel - a bit on the sweet side.

(bottle; the German label says “Schwarzbier from Bohemia”; 4.8% ABV; GTIN: 8594014588217) Very dark, almost black colour with a reddish shine and a short creamy beige head. Sweet dark malty and slightly roasted aroma with toffee, chocolate, dried fruits and herbal hops. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium body, smooth carbonation. Sweet and slightly sugary toast-malty taste with toffee; medium-sweet, light bitter finish. Pleasant to drink but a tad too sweet and a rather slim brew.

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a cafe au lait head. Toffee aroma. Light nutty/toffee flavor with a slight citric flavor at the end. Lighter bodied and easy to drink.
